2K Sports announced that New York Mets baseball star Jose Reyes will be featured on the cover of Major League Baseball 2K8, and also be the chief spokesperson for the upcoming sports game.

Reyes entered the league four years ago and last year led the Major League in stolen bases and triples. This year he led in stolen bases once again with 78.

2K Sports also took the opportunity to confirm the platforms for the game, which will include the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

The previous spokesperson for the series was Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees, who first achieved the title in 2005.

While all the focus is inevitably on the big AAA titles like Assassin’s Creed and Unreal Tournament III (which Sony still has pegged for a pre-Christmas launch, you should note), Sony is, to put it one way, waving its willy about the fact that there are actually a total of 104 games and expansion packs releasing on PlayStation formats in time for the company’s Christmas onslaught.

Market sources are claiming that Sony is working on a new variant of their older generation Playstation 2 gaming console which would feature an internal power supply.

This version could be priced as little as USD 99 as the company would be able to cut costs by integrating the power converter inside the device itself.

Sony is currently offering the PS2 console for USD 129 in the US market.

Market analysts are also suggesting that the company could drop the price of the current PS2 to USD 99 for the upcoming holiday season.

They are failing to sell enough units of their latest Playstation 3 console and are facing huge losses. Microsoft and Nintendo are dominating the US market with sales of Xbox 360 and Wii gaming consoles.
